Instructions

  1. 1

Cook the rice according to package directions and let cool slightly. Heat the oven to 350°F.

  2. 2

Core the cabbage and boil it in a large pot of water until the outer leaves soften and peel away easily, about 8 minutes. Remove 12 large leaves and trim the thick ribs.

  3. 3

Mix the ground beef with the cooked rice, egg, paprika, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper, the grated onion, and minced garlic.

  4. 4

Whisk the tomato sauce with the brown sugar and vinegar, and spread a cup of it in a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  5. 5

Spoon about 1/3 cup filling onto each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll up snugly. Arrange seam side down in the dish and pour the remaining sauce over the top.

  6. 6

Cover tightly with foil and bake until the beef is cooked through and the cabbage is very tender, about 60 minutes. Spoon sauce over the rolls to serve.

Stop staring at the fridge.
